Middle School Academics

The years from 6th grade through 8th grade are an important time of development. Students define their interests, learn new talents, and face challenges that are unique to their age group. Our goal is to develop the skills, critical thinking, and understanding that come from interacting with new information and experiences. Our curriculum covers traditional core academic areas, as well as a variety of offering in the arts and athletics, all presented in innovative, creative, and engaging ways by an experienced faculty.

The 6th grade has modified block scheduling. Three core teachers specialize daily in language arts, math and science, and geography and Bible. Students also receive weekly instruction in fine arts, library, technology, and physical education. In 7th and 8th grade, students follow a more traditional seven-period schedule with the option to pursue a variety of electives and an honor’s track in math and science.

Biblical Foundation

At the heart of our middle school program is our desire for students to develop a strong biblical foundation. Every class connects concepts to biblical truths through the curriculum and class discussion. Students also build a strong foundation through daily Bible classes. Dynamic discussions and interactive lessons are designed to relate to issues and ideas we know middle school-aged kids are thinking about. Students learn biblical truths and memorize scripture in order to develop a solid biblical worldview that can help them strengthen their biblical foundation as they move through middle school and eventually into high school. Classes in 7th and 8th grade are divided by gender to allow for deeper, more challenging discussion.

Students participate in weekly chapel services, usually in combination with high school. Chapel is valuable to all of Middle School students, not just for the corporate worship aspect, but also for the unity of the body that is experienced weekly as middle schoolers, high schoolers, faculty, and staff gather together in worship.

We are proud to host students from 6th—8th grade and have a faculty that is passionate about middle schoolers!
